Steampunk Tales #3 Cover

I created this image for the cover of issue #3 of Steampunk Tales, a collection of Steampunk stories by award-winning authors.

I created this image using Corel Painter, using the scratch board tool for line work and color with the pastel brushes. The last stage was to distress it to emulate the look and feel of pulp
magazines from the 30s and 40s. I added some yellow and sepia textures throughout and a few distress lines at the corners and along the "spine" using a thin pastel brush.
This collection of tiki gods attempts to shed light on a lost and forgotten world. Some exist in plain view among the throng of civilization. Others are shrouded in mystery and deadly intentions, born witness by no more than the wildest of beasts for centuries. The power and energy in all of them is palpable and each has its own special characteristics and story to tell. It is with great hope that the many years of exploration, research and sadly, gruesome deaths, will not be in vain and the history of this dying world of the mystical will continue to be handed down to future generations.
Guards the beaches and acts as a trickster siren, the Pan Tiki lures unwanted ships into the shallows of Desperation Atoll. This siren song also discourages the presence of sharks for miles, making it a haven for surfers.
